| Project Working with a Point Of Sale (POS) design company to produce an animated display for Lego for the launch of their new range based on Harry Potter, Prisoner of Azkaban. Product A flying purple triple decker bus. Solution There were two ways in which the customer wanted to animate the product. They wanted the wheels of the bus to rotate. They wanted the bus to rock back and forth to simulate flying through the air. To rotate the front and rear wheels we proposed our 5024-24050-10C via pulley and belt. To rock the bus it was mounted on a see-saw arrangement and a cam was used to raise and lower the see-saw. The exact speed that the see-saw needed to go up and down was not known exactly so a geared DC motor was proposed along with a power source with a variable voltage supply. The selected system was our D2938-2085 with our 229 gearbox. The D2938 motor has a wide range of voltages at which it can be run, this would allow the customer to experiment with the speed the bus rocked. The 229 was selected for its torque carrying capability, bus weight approximately 30kg and that it could handle the power of the specified motor. The finished product was presented at the film's premiere in London and units were placed in the windows of several major toy outlets around the UK. |
