1. First decide which gearbox style you need: ovoid or in-line. For guidance please look at the gearbox information page.
2. Using the appropriate selection chart on this page, click the intersection point of the required torque (Nm) and speed (rpm). The correct motor output power can be read from the resulting chart. Any gearbox above the marked intersection will satisfy the torque requirement.
3. Using the brushed dc motor schedule that appears, select a motor from the appropriate power at maximum efficiency and voltage range.
4. Calculate your gearbox ratio by dividing the maximum efficiency speed of your motor (at the selected voltage) by the required speed of the gearbox shaft. Using the gearbox data sheets you can check if this ratio is available, if not select the closest to your requirement.
5. Now you should consider any additional features you may require; customised shaft, encoders, EMI suppression, pulley, flying leads and connector.
6. Detailed technical data sheets for each component can be found here.
You will now have selected a motor and gearbox which is close to your requirement. Before moving forward you should allow us to use our special expertise to examine your application and selection. We are happy to support the development of your project with samples, technical and commercial advice. Please remember that there may be a number of trial stages before the final selection is made.
